Sunderland 'will see rise in green collar job availability'
The number of green collar jobs available in Sunderland will rise, comments made by one politician suggest.
According to energy secretary Ed Miliband, the area has good prospects in terms of involvement in off-shore wind farms, low-carbon manufacture and electric car production, the Sunderland Echo reports.
He claimed that, in this respect, it will not be overshadowed by the Tyne.
Speaking at the Labour North conference - which took place on March 6th and saw key note speeches made by senior cabinet members - Mr Miliband said: "I think Sunderland has great potential. I've been here before for different events and I think it's got a very, very positive future."
He added that the Port of Sunderland will play a role, noting that its infrastructure is very important for offshore wind projects.
Mr Miliband went on to draw attention to government support for the area's Nissan factory to win the bid to build the new electric Leaf car.
