Govt's 'boosting green collar jobs in electric car industry'

Governments around the world are boosting the green collar jobs sector by investing in eco-friendly car technology.

This is according to a BBC report, which said that many countries have introduced some form of subsidy for the development of electric and hybrid cars.

In the UK, for example, up to £5,000 will be made available to drivers who choose such a vehicle from next January - a move which may encourage Nissan to base its Leaf car production plant in the north-east of England.

The BBC pointed out that at this year's Geneva motor show, there will hardly be a single exhibit that does not display electric or hybrid cars.

It went on to note that the government in South Korea is among those offering incentives to boost the industry.

The administration is planning to lift a ban on all-electric vehicles and replace it with research and development assistance, as well as tax incentives to encourage sales.
