Solar panel developments 'may cause rise in demand for green collar training'

As solar panels become an increasingly realistic option for both homes and businesses, there may be an increase in demand for green collar training in the sector.

According to Andrew Moore, managing director of British Eco Energy, the technology is becoming less exclusive for the first time.

His comments follow further announcements by the government concerning its plans to introduce feed-in tariffs for small-scale low-carbon electricity.

From April this year, communities and households who install solar panels and wind turbines will be able to claim payments for the electricity the devices produce.

Mr Moore stated: "This announcement takes renewables from being a niche market for very green people or very wealthy people, to something that most people can do. It's very exciting. It's a major shift. "

He went on to point out that other countries, such as Germany, already have similar schemes in place and solar panels are popular in them as a result.
